Debut

My Outstanding Debut...

Well yesterday was my first day. It went well - far from the usual temp situation of being thrown in at the deep end (usually carying bricks) I was eased in by the manager not being present and mostly getting tours of the offices, site and general job ideas. Today was similar, but with talks about job and actual work thrown in for fun.

Tomorrow sees the first training session, luckily I am trainee not trainer so no problems there.

It's a nice place with nice people, moving closer will be a must though. I can get a burnt out house for £45,000 not too far away, or do some renting in studenty areas. A 15 min walk to work would be a really plesant change.

Jet Plane Landing was great, the usual chat about how the fans make it possible and everyone on stage for the encore. Good to talk to Andrew and Co. about Truck, Irish music & the Indepandant scene. They are even reissuing Acrimony later this year!

Brendon Benson on Fri was a quiet affair, with just him & Dean from the Waxwings on keys. Nice enough, but I'd have liked more instruments! And the Interpol & Mansun albums are as great as they should be, which after a year of mostly disapointing follow up albums is a nice change. And the best of Morrissey was only £2.99 in the HMV sale - knew I'd get to use the vouchers eventually!

Dinosaur

Well Jeffrey Lewis & Bom went well, good gig and we even got to chat with them all afterwards. I'd been to see the TRex movie at the Imax earlier in the day too, which was better than you'd think and well worth a trip.

Jetplane Landing tonight, which should be good - although Bar Academy has a tendancy to be far too hot if more than 50 people actually turn up.

Got a voice mail yesterday, job starts on Monday. Finished the cheque based job and have a few days to sort out loose ends.

Looks like an X55 commute both ways though, 1hr 50 there and 1hr 30 back. Hopefully.

Oh and feel free to use the comments feature if you like!

Sunrise

Well this is it. The proverbial new begining - New job, new home (probably), a few new friends too (maybe), new adventures (definately).

I'm guessing that most people who find this will know who I am, and those hoping to find the typical Blog full of secrets & insider knowledge will be sorely dissapointed. It's for news, keeping lots of people updated and amused at one time - which is great for someone as absent minded as I am.

The job: just sent off the medical forms and expect to hear back soon - i'll start the monday after I achieve medical clearence so 27th Sep or 4th Oct is likely. Due to it bordering on a 2 hour commute I'm probably moving to within 3 miles of UHB so I can get the trip down to 30 mins each way, probably with cycling.

Between then & now I'm temping (again) for a company that does cheque clearing. It's in Tricorn house which means frequent visits to Salter's Cafe, but it's about as exciting as watching dry paint. Basically I'm putting things into the correct order, then pulling cheques off a list. They keep extending the position too (where have I seen that before...). The cash is handy for if I feel compelled to buy a house/box instead of just renting.

Stuff that's on the horizon includes Jeff Lewis supported by Bom @ Jug of Ale on Sat 18th and Jet Plane Landing on the 22nd @ Academy 2. Let me know if you are going. Oh and we have a spare ticket to Brendon Benson on the 24th Sep at the Little Civic now, any takers?

Anyway, hopefully I'll remember to update this about weekly, or just as things happen so keep an eye on nli10.co.uk.

Next Big Thing: Bom & His Magic Drumstick.
